Add A Compact Digg Button To A WordPress Post
I wanted to add a Digg button to the latest post on my Run Bulldog Run blog, but I didn’t want it to be the default big, clunky button.
I found a link to the tools page of the Digg web site which contains various code for various “Digg This” functionality. One block of code claimed that the background color could be changed to blend in with the web site/blog background color and that the big, clunky button could be changed to a compact version. Sounded promising and the code looked easy to implement.

However, after changing digg_url to the URL of the post, digg_bgcolor to my chosen background color and digg_skin to compact (as per the Digg instructions), the big, clunky Digg button was still visible. I read a blog post that it could be a WordPress cache issue, so I deleted my temporary internet files, closed/reopened by browser and browsed to my latest post. Still no change - big, clunky Digg button.
I found several people who had the same problem, but no fixes or resolutions. It was only when I viewed the source code that I figured out what the problem was - the single quotes around the web site URL were causing the page to break. A quick edit to include double quotes and now the default big, clunky Digg button is no more. Feel free to head on over to the post to see what the new compact button looks like. I much prefer the way it blends in to the in-your-face standard button, and as I don’t want to promote each and every post, it’s easy enough to add the code when required.
Hopefully this will help anyone having similar issues with the new Digg button code…..

Hello Steve
You might like the integrated approach to putting a batch of social bookmarking icons on your blog.
Here’s a good free one:
