How to update the Alexa thumbnail image of your web site
Regular cymru66.com readers will know I’ve been nominated for Best Blog About Stuff in the 2007 Blogger’s Choice Awards.
On hearing the news I’d been nominated, I clicked through to the Blogger’s Choice Awards web site to check things out. First thing I noticed was the thumbnail of my blog was out of date, and obviously captured a few weeks ago before I updated my WordPress banner image.
I wondered if it were possible to updated the thumbnail?
I asked the question on the BlogCatalog Discussion Board and within a few minutes had a reply from BC member PayPerPost:
“All thumbnails on BloggersChoiceAwards.com are cached by Alexa and updated about once every two months. The thumbnail images of more popular sites are updated more frequently, and sites with higher Alexa scores (lower traffic ratings) are updated less frequently. You may have some success asking Alexa to update the thumbnail for you, and if they do please let us know so that we can pull the new image.”
A quick search of Google revealed the following link:
- http://thumbnails.alexa.com/update_thumbnail?url=yoursite.com/
- Just replace yoursite.com with your domain name - in my case cymru66.com.
- When the “Site Information Editor” page loads you should see your existing thumbnail.
- Click on the “Update Thumbnail Image of yoursite.com” and your Alexa Thumbnail Image should be updated within 48 hours.
How easy was that? I’ll let you know when it’s been updated.

I did that long long time ago. But Alexa still did not update it for me.

Same here. It’s been much longer than the 48 hours they state on their web site. I emailed them yesterday and will post what they say.
