StumbleUpon officially joins forces with eBay
Today at 4:02pm on the StumbleUpon Blog, the announcement was made that StumbleUpon has officially joined eBay.
What does this mean for the current army of Stumblers, the loyal followers of the virtual community company.
According to Garrett Camp (president of StumbleUpon), Geoff Smith and Justin LaFrance:
“We think that joining eBay is the right thing to do to help us to grow StumbleUpon to its full potential. We think eBay is a great fit for us because eBay and StumbleUpon share similar approaches – we’re both driven by our community of users, and we are both dedicated to connecting people.
We also want you to know that not much will change around here. We’ll be running StumbleUpon separately within eBay Inc., and we’ll still be focused on developing features based on your feedback.
Thanks for all your support. Keep stumbling!”
It’s estimated that eBay spent $75 million to buy StumbleUpon, the community-powered Web discovery service with approximately $2.3 million users, but no-one seems to have an explanation as to eBay’s motivation. Only time will tell what eBay plans for StumbleUpon, but for now I’ll keep on Stumbling with the aim of driving more traffic to my site.
