Not Too Late To Run The 33rd Marine Corps Marathon!

Filed under: Running — Tags: — Steve Speirs @ 7:02 pm

Registration for this year’s Marine Corps Marathon closed out in five days (the second fast in event history) and as usual, many runners missed the boat and were forced to look elsewhere for a Fall marathon. This year, however, the Palomar Hotel is offering a first-of-its kind partnership with the 33rd Annual Marine Corps Marathon download head of state that will provide runners with a special opportunity to register for the sold-out marathon.

All you have to do is book the exclusive Go The Distance package at the four-star Hotel Palomar Arlington, located just steps from the Marine Corps Marathon’s finish line.

At $305.00 the package offers pretty good value and includes the following:

  • Two nights minimum stay in deluxe accommodations at the hotel
  • One registration entry for Marine Corps Marathon
  • Transportation for one registrant to the marathon’s starting line
  • Energy gels and nutritional snacks to help runners reach peak performance
  • Complimentary use of yoga mat for stretching during stay

Dean Karnazes 50/50 & Conquering The Game Of Life

I’m currently reading a special preview edition of the latest publication by super-endurance athlete Dean Karnazes. 50/50 is the tale of Dean’s epic 2006 attempt to cpmplete 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days, and is a fascinating account of what it feels like to stretch the limits of human strength.

The soon-to-be-released book not only recounts the ultimate running challenge, but is littered with useful training tips and words of wisdom straight from the horses mouth.

By the way, watch this space for a more detailed book review and unique opportunity to win one of five hardcover editions of 50/50 that I’ve managed to secure from the publisher!

50/50: Secrets I Learned Running 50 Marathons in 50 Days e t the extra terrestrial dvdrip download download green mile the online , is one of those hard-to-put-down books and therefore won’t take me too long to finish. With this in mind I definitely need another fascinating book waiting in the wings, and luckily I think I’ve found it:

Conquering the Game of Life is a self help book recently released by a local orthopedic hand surgeon, who shares his health experiences and personal journey to help the reader capture and play the game of life they desire.

Dr. C. K. Hersh was diagnosed with cancer at a young age. Two years after his cancer treatment his unique insights were further accelerated by the loss of his father. Sadly C.K.’s mother died two years later. With many significant life changes in a very short period of time C. K. set out on a journey of self-discovery that he shares with the reader.

The unique book will entertain the reader and pose questions which will enable the reader to capture the game of life they desire. In addition, the included workbook can be utilized to help the reader structure and ultimately conquer their own game of life.

Dr. C. K. Hersh lives in an historic neighborhood in Portsmouth, Virginia with his wife and two children. On a personal level I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and supporting C. K. Hersh at several local running and multi-sport events, and can honestly say you couldn’t wish to meet a more genuine person.

Conquering the Game of Life is a journey of self-discovery and growth, generously sprinkled with sports analogies that help others learn to play the game of life they desire. I’m sure athletes and non-athletes alike will relate to the series of entertaining stories, exercises, and questions that empower the reader to find his or her game.

I have to say I’ll be sad when Dean’s 50/50 marathon adventure comes to a glorious end, but I’m really looking forward to delve into the 176 pages of self-discovery and personal growth. Who knows, maybe I can improve my own Game of Life?

Hella Sound: Premium Running Music

Hella Sound is a brand new web site that promises “the best running music, synced to your pace and designed to burn calories.” Sounds impressive, especially if you’re one of those runners that need the right music to propel you through a workout.

Finishing touches are being made to their web site, but you can still go ahead and register ; Hella Sound will notify you when their first batch of music is available for download.

According to the web site, Hella Sound provide:

hard-driving original music, synced to your pace and built to burn calories. All of our songs are 30 minutes long and contain rhythmic and harmonic structure to help you stay focused during your run.

All of their music will be totally original and perfectly matched to your cadence (running strides per minute). Hella Sound will offer each song in preset rates (BPM/beats per minute) that will match your typical 135 to 175 running strides per minute.

Looks to be a great addition to the ever-increasing technology-inspired training tools available for runners and I hope it’s not too long before the first songs in their catalog are released.free just like heaven movie download download last king of scotland the

Paula Radcliffe Update: Will She Or Won't She Race At The Beijing Olympics?

Paula Radcliffe, the world marathon record holder, was in London earlier this morning to meet with UK Athletics officials and undergo tests at the British Olympic Medical Institute. Radcliffe has now returned to the French Pyrenees to continue training at her base in Font Romeu, but admits it’s going to be a race against time to make it to Beijing next month.

Paula’s participation in the Olympics is threatened by a stress fracture in her left thigh which was diagnosed just a couple of months ago.

The British Olympic Association has until Sunday, July 20th to finalize its team, but with the rule that athletes can drop out at any time on medical grounds, Radcliffe could technically leave it until the day before the Olympic Marathon to decide if she’s going to race.

Time will tell I guess. I personally hope Paula is fit enough to run and do herself justice, and I’m sure if she feels she can’t compete at the required level, she’ll do the right thing and allow stand-in Hayley Haining to run her dream race.

RunYourCity.com: Uniting Runners On The Web

Filed under: Running — Tags: — Steve Speirs @ 4:34 am

I recently received an invite from Ryan Song, owner of great new web site RunYourCity.com, asking if I’d like my Run Bulldog Run blog to be added as a start page for Virginia Beach on his all-new project. The project sounded like a great idea, so off I went to check it out. Here’s what I found:

According to Ryan’s About page, the goal of RunYourCity.com is

To provide a central location for all running bloggers to gather. After doing a lot of searching, I realized that many really good blogs weren’t getting much traffic and very few in any comments. It was immediately obvious that certain runners would benefit reading each other’s blog, especially those in the same city. Not too long after, I decided to open RunYourCity.

Seems like a good idea to me! The list of cities is growing and currently include Chicago, Denver, New York, San Francisco to name just a few. Click on a city and you’ll find information such as places to run, links to local runners’ blogs, places to shop and a list of running clubs in the area.

There’s also a book club where you can read and contribute about running books and other running-related topics, a useful video library featuring strength training, stretching, healthy eating and product reviews and a RunYourCity online store download shadow man .

RunYourCity.com

is still in its infancy, but could well become a great resource for the online running community. Nice work Ryan! By the way, if you don’t see your city, click here to get in touch with Ryan – you may be able to get your blog and city listed on his site.

Radcliffe Still Optimistic For Olympics

She’s still recovering from a stress fracture to her left thigh, but Paula Radcliffe is determined to make the Olympics, despite medical advice claiming the injury would make it impossible for her to achieve full fitness in time.

UK Athletics performance director Dave Collins is also hopeful Radcliffe will recover in time for August’s Olympic Games in Beijing:

All the reports I am getting is that she is on schedule

Keen to shake off the injury, Radcliffe has returned to her training base at Font Romeu in the French Pyrenees in a bid to make a fourth successive Olympic appearance, with Collins closely monitoring the situation from afar. He added:

It’s a significant injury and certainly she’s been very committed and worked well.

She’s in the pool and cross training but not actually running. As you would expect from an athlete committed to putting herself on the start line, we will give her all the help we can.

Collins suggested they wait until July 20th (when the final Great Britain team is announced) before making a decision on Radcliffe.

Good luck Paula!
