Tour de France Brit Update

photofinish.jpgToday’s 178-kilometre Tour de France stage 12 from Montpellier to Castres was won in a thrilling photo-finish by Quickstep’s Tom Boonen.

On the UK front, Welshman Geraint Thomas finished a creditable 19th, Bradley Wiggins crossed the line 117th, Charlie Wegelius 137th and David Millar three further places back.

Classified 86th overall, Wegelius is the best-placed Brit in the Tour.

Tomorrow sees the first time trial of this year’s Tour de France, and I have a feeling Michael Rasmussen might surprise a few people tomorrow. Not known as one of the better riders against the clock, Michael is quite annoyed at the Danish Cycling Federation who decided to suspend him from representing his country at the World Championships this year.

Was watching the Tour yesterday and the commentators was talking about that there might be some hidden agenda behind the the Rasmussen stuff.
The cycling federations thinks Tour de France has way too much power and what better way to “destroy” them than saying the leader is using drugs..

Good luck to the Brits/Welsh =)

      Wouldn’t surprise me at all…

Who are the commentators in Norway? Can’t beat Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin! :)

      I really like this post!

    4. Thomas Says:

You have probably never heard of them.

Argh, just read the news! Vinokourov has been caught for using drugs.
WTF is wrong with these guys?! :(

    5. Steve Speirs Says:

      No idea….

Looks like Vinokourov has tested positive for a homologous blood transfusion which suggests he underwent a blood transfusion shortly before the start of Saturday’s Time Trial. Crazy….did he think he’d get away with it?!

    6. Thomas Says:

Well, it’s good that they root out the cheaters. Maybe every druggy should be banned from the sport for life?
The current rules doesn’t seem to scare people.
