Cardiff To Represent UK As Its European City Of Sport
The City of Cardiff has been chosen to represent the UK as its European City of Sport for 2009; an award which recognizes the work of professional and amateur sporting clubs across the city.
According to the European Capitals of Sport Association (Aces), several requirements of the award are showing a sense of enjoyment in exercise, a willingness to achieve, a sense of community, learning fair play and improvement of health.
Cardiff Council said the city had been selected to host the £3m UK School Games and hopes the award will mean more money will be invested into facilities in Cardiff to encourage further sports development.
Good news for Cardiff. Good news for Wales. Hopefully great news for Welsh athletes…
