Joe Calzaghe To Fight Roy Jones Jr At Madison Square Garden?
Looks like Welsh boxing legend Joe Calzaghe will fight Roy Jones Jr on 20 September, with the venue being New York’s Madison Square Garden, not Las Vegas as was previously talked about.
According to the BBC Sport web site, Vegas had been tipped to host the light-heavyweight clash between veteran American legend Jones and Welsh two-weight champion Calzaghe, but John Wirt, the chief executive of Jones’ promotional company, Square Ring, claims the fight is now likely to go ahead at Madison Square Garden.
Wirt told ESPN.com:
The deal is done. We’re finalising with the Garden.
Calzaghe recently split with promoter Frank Warren and will promote himself, with Jones co-promoting the massive fight.
