Norway Swept Aside By Young Welsh Side
Following on from the success of the Welsh Rugby team last Saturday, a young Wales team swept aside a lackluster Norwegian eleven and scored their first victory over Norway in nine meetings and 26 years.
The Wales goals came from discarded Crystal Palace midfielder Carl Fletcher (his first international goal ) after 15 minutes and then two from Jason Koumas (Wigan Athletic) after 61 and 89 minutes to seal an impressive 3-0 win.
Norwegian Press were quick to criticize their National team:
“An embarrassing performance“, wrote Oslo newspaper Aftenposten.
Even coach Aage Hareide had harsh words about his team:
“I am extremely angry. I am not disappointed, I am mad” he said after the match.
Meanwhile Welsh boss John Toshack was clearly delighted:
“It was very satisfying particularly with the players we were missing once again” said the Wales boss.
“In the second half we made changes, it didn’t interrupt our game and to see so many young lads out there performing in difficult conditions is pleasing.”
Let’s hope the Welsh Sporting Streak continues….
