Spirited Welsh Display But Russia Come Out On Top

Not the result Wales probably deserved, but Pavel Pogrebnyak’s late strike broke Welsh hearts in Moscow as the Russia substitute snatched a vital 2-1 victory in the Group Four World Cup qualifier.

Wales manager John Toshack said he was:

bitterly disappointed that his young side failed to claim a point in Moscow tonight.

Gareth Bale had earlier missed a penalty for Wales which turned out to be crucial at the end of 90 minutes.
