Wales 0 Paraguay 0
Wales impressively held World Cup finalists Paraguay to a 0-0 draw last night in their friendly international at the Millennium Stadium. Goalkeeper Paul Jones was the hero as he pulled off a series of fine of saves, notably from Cesar Ramirez and Humberto Paredes. Another standout was Lewin Nyatanga, 17, who hardly put a foot wrong as he became Wales’ youngest ever player.
Wales manager John Toshack played his favoured 3-5-2 formation in front of a poor Millennium Stadium crowd of only 12,324, and will take heart from solid displays by other youngsters like Andrew Crofts, Joe Ledley and David Cotterill. Substitute goalkeeper Lewis Price also impressed when he came off the bench and made an excellent save to keep the scores level.
Toshack will surely be hoping more supporters show up when the campaign starts for the next major finals. Maybe the locals were out celebrating St. David’s Day instead??
