wales fact #10 - cardiff city A.F.C.

Cardiff City BadgeCardiff City A.F.C. remain the only Welsh football team to win the F.A. Cup (even if it was way back in 1927!), where they beat the mighty Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley Stadium. Actually, in those days the cup was called the English Cup, but is now known as the F.A.Cup.

Cardiff play at Ninian Park just outside the city centre, but are in the process of planning and constructing a new stadium to be located opposite the old one. They are one of a handful of Welsh sides to play in the English football league system, rather than the Welsh system and currently play in the Football League Championship.

The club was formed in 1899 as Riverside F. C. 13 years later the name was changed to Riverside Albion and in 1908 changed once again to the current name Cardiff City.
