wales fact #4
Wales is home to the largest stadium in the UK (soon to be overtaken when the new Wembley Stadium is completed) - the Millenium Stadium, which has the only retractable roof in Europe and seats 74,500 people. The roof is also the largest in the world. Since it opened in June 1999, the Millenium Stadium has hosted the spectacular Rugby World Cup, the FA Cup Final, the Carling Cup Final, the British Speedway Grand Prix, and many outstanding concerts with excellent performances from the following artists: The Manic Street Preachers, Tina Turner, Bon Jovi, Robbie Williams and The Stereophonics. It’s now the home of The Welsh Rugby Union, The Football Association, The Football League, The Football Association of Wales and the British Speedway Association and is located in the nations’ capital, Cardiff.

Details:
Lower Tier - 23,500 spectators
Middle Tier - 18,000 spectators
Upper Tier - 33,000 spectators
Masts (x4) - 90.341 metres [296ft] high (making it the tallest building in Wales)
Naturally, the most impressive feature of the Millennium Stadium is the fully retractable roof which is 105m x 80m [344.5ft x 262.5ft]. It takes 20 minutes to open or close the roof and costs just £2.54 [$4.37]!
