It’s as easy as”pi”…..
Welsh mathematical genius, William Jones, born in a small village in Anglesey with the curious name of Llanfihangel Tre’r Beirdd (Church of St. Michael, Town of the Bards), is credited for being the first to use the 16th letter of the Greek alphabet, (pi), to represent the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle. Pi appears as a constant in a wide range of mathematical problems.
The symbol for pi was introduced by Jones in 1706, who wrote 3.14159=pi, and was later adopted by Euler in 1737 and became the standard symbol for pi. Just in case you’re wondering, the numerical value of π truncated to 50 decimal places is:
3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510
