Winning Start For Welsh World Cup Campaign
Winning start indeed, but it wasn’t pretty. Luckily Wolves striker Sam Vokes was able to scramble a late winning goal against World Cup minnows Azerbaijan to end the frustration of just over 17,000 fans inside the Millennium Stadium.
Welsh Manager John Toshack was happy with win but knows his team will have to perform so much better against a quality Russian team on Wednesday evening.
We expected a difficult game and they were tough opposition. I’m satisfied with the result and I don’t think anyone could begrudge us the points. We dominated the match and heads could easily have dropped after the penalty was missed. They were bouncing and our lot were deflated.
