Get Slim For Summer: 10 Great Calorie Burners
It looks like the warmer weather is here to stay, which is the cue for many people to spend more time outside.
As many regular readers of this blog already know, I’m an avid runner. I don’t think twice about exercising outside all year round, but quite understandably, most people wait for the nicer weather to arrive before venturing outside.
I also tend to stick to 3 main sports to keep fit - namely running, cycling and occasionally swimming. However, if you’re looking to lose a few pounds for the summer, there are many other activities you can perform that will burn those all important extra calories. Why not try one of the following? Quite often, doing something new won’t feel like a chore and you may actually enjoy the exercise. It could be the start of something exciting for you…
- Water polo (704 calories)
- Ultimate Frisbee (246 calories)
- Beach volleyball (289 calories)
- Fishing (281 calories)
- Tennis (563 calories)
- Snorkeling (352 calories)
- Kayaking (352 calories)
- Horseback riding (281 calories)
- Croquet (176 calories)
- Badminton (317 calories)
Note: All figures based on a 150lb person performing 60 minutes of exercise.
If you’re really not the outdoors type, all is not lost. You can still burn just over 100 calories per hour typing, so now there’s no excuse not to keep that blog up to date!

Waterpolo is my favo sport, good to see it top the list!!! Unfortunately I can’t play it anymore after getting a whiplash in a ‘friendly’ match!

I’m probably the world’s worst water polo player - can’t tread water and my feet usually cramp up so bad! Great calorie burner though - you’re always doing something..
