Push Ups: The Quest for Strength Week 3

Before starting Week 3 of the Push Ups Quest for Strength plan, I had to complete another “exhaustion test”. In layman’s terms, this means doing as many push ups as you can to determine which column of exercises to follow for the next 2 weeks. I took the test yesterday so I’d be able to do the Monday, Wednesday, Friday again this week, and could only manage 24 straight push ups (5 more than the same test 2 weeks ago). According to the 100 Push Ups for Breakfast plan, this puts me in column 2 for Week 3 and 4.

I’m definitely getting stronger, but the workouts are also becoming quite tough to complete. Today’s requirements were 20, 15, 15, 13 and at least 20, with 60 seconds of rest in between. I managed the first 4 series but could only finish with 15 on the last set before wimping out.

If you’re still following the plan, here’s Week 3. As I look ahead to Wednesday and Friday - it’s not going to get any easier!

Wow, you must be pretty strong already to be able to do this! I get tired just reading it :)

Well done Steve, sounds tough but the program seems to be working. I still can’t assume a pushup position properly due to my recovering groin strain. But as soon as I can I’ll be starting the program from scratch again to follow it through.

Gerri: not really, but I’m slowly getting stronger…

Dex: hope the injury is healing nicely and you’ll soon be back where you belong. you made a wise decision to back off after 400m at the track. like you say, you could easily end up undoing all the healing that’s already taken place. hang in there…

Hershel Walker of the Cowboys always claimed that he just performed push-ups to gain his upper body strength. I agree that push-ups are a great exercise that build the chest, triceps, and shoulders.
