First bike ride for a long, long time….

Map of Generic bike ride
Well, with my foot no better than it was yesterday, I decided it was time to brush down my Giant TCR triathlon bike, and head out for an hour of road biking. To be honest I can’t remember the last time I rode outside. Maybe it was the Sandman Triathlon in 2005?? Who knows?…

I’ve ridden indoors several times over the past couple of weeks (mainly workouts from Troy Jacobson’s DVD Spinervals Series), but this would be my first venture outside for quite some time. Should make for an interesting workout…

I must admit, it didn’t feel like I hadn’t ridden for a couple of years. I guess the expression “It’s like riding a bike” is pretty accurate. The ride was quite enjoyable. Traffic wasn’t too crazy, the weather was perfect and my legs didn’t feel too bad at all. I tried to keep the cadence high to minimize the stress on muscles I’m not used to using. Aside from a few windy sections, I was able to spin quite easily. My heart rate stayed in a fairly easy zone for the most part and I was surprised to see the average was only 130 at the end of the ride. Average speed was 17mph (which won’t win me any prizes), but for a first attempt I’m quite happy. Hopefully the ride will help maintain my fitness as I try to minimize the impact on my foot.
