Garmin Forerunner 305 Firmware Update
If you’re still debating whether to buy a new Forerunner 305 or still contemplating an upgrade from one of the earlier models
What firmware version do I currently have?
Select “Settings” on the main menu and then “General”:
Scroll down, select “About Forerunner” and you should see “Software Version” displayed:
Now that you know your current version, check the 305 Software Update page to see the latest version. If they’re different, download and install the Unit Software.
Is there an easier way to check for updates?
Actually there is. Garmin has provided a great Windows-based PC application which communicates with the Garmin server over the Internet, and updates your Garmin GPS with the most current software version available. Download WebUpdater from the Garmin web site and choose to save the file to your computer (I typically save to my Desktop so I can find the file easily). Once the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file (in my case the Desktop) and double-click on it. Once the installation is complete, you may delete the downloaded file to conserve disk space.
How to update 305 firmware with WebUpdater?
Make sure (a) your computer is connected to the internet and (b) your Forerunner 305 is connected to your computer.
Open the WebUpdater utility, typically installed in the following location: C:\Garmin\WebUpdater.
You can also run the application by clicking on Start | All Programs | Garmin | WebUpdater.
Follow the prompts on the WebUpdater wizard and you’ll soon be updated with the latest firmware. If you need further instructions, more details can be found here. Now that you’re all up to date, it’s time to get outside and get ForeRunning!
