It's a no-brainer for each of them. It's an easy way to give back to their customers (without costing them anything really, when you think about it), plus it's a big win for the artists to get some easy promotion. I've got 3 of the 4 so far (missed the Joni Mitchell giveaway) and they've been pretty decent. This is such a cool promotion by Starbucks and Apple in my opinion. It’s a no-brainer for each of them.
