Apple Mac mini on it’s way!
As a long time PC user, I’ve been thinking about taking the plunge with a Mac for quite some time. When the Apple Mac mini came onto the market a few months ago I was intrigued but not totally convinced it was for me. Plus, Tiger was still at the pre-release stage. After a fair bit of research I decided to wait until the Mac mini started shipping with the latest version of OSX.
The end of June rolls around and just as I’m about to place my order I stumble across this thread on the MacRumors Forums. To cut a long story short there was a lot of speculation that a “bigger and better” mini was due to be released, possibly with more RAM, a bigger and faster hard drive and maybe a better graphics card. The dates thrown into the mix were July 7th and July 11th. I thought, “Well I’ve waited this long, another week or two won’t hurt”, so I put thoughts of my order to one side and waited for the big announcement from Steve Jobs. The 7th came and went - nothing. The 11th came and went - nothing. I figure I’ll wait until the end of the week and then order. Thursday 14th rolls around and I can’t take it anymore. Time to order!
The specs I decided on are as follows:
- 1.42GHz : 80GB drive
- 512MB SDRAM
- Superdrive
- AirPort Extreme
- Bluetooth
As soon as my order was confirmed, I was issued an estimated ship date of July 20th, not too bad at all I thought. After watching the status change a few times over the weekend, this morning I get an email from Apple saying the mini has been shipped via FedEx and should arrive within 3 days. Can’t believe it’s finally on it’s way! Now I just need to get to the store and figure out what KVM to buy, but that’s another story….
