eBates Update: Where It Pays To Shop Online
Just wanted to post an update on my eBates account. The bad news is I still haven’t earned enough to retire, but the good news is I have made a small amount of money, and to be honest it didn’t take a lot of effort to earn it.
Here’s a quick reminder of how eBates works:
- Every time you shop online, start at the eBates web site.
- Search for your favorite shops, products or special offers (which are updated daily by the way). If you prefer you can also browse by category.
- Shop by clicking on any of the 800+ stores or product links. You’ll be redirected to the merchant’s site where you can shop as you normally would.
- Usually within a couple of days your cash back will appear in your eBates account.
My account is currently showing a whopping balance of $37.24, broken down as follows:
- Tell-A-Friend Bonus - $5.00
- Tell-A-Friend Bonus - $5.00
- Tell-A-Friend Bonus - $5.00
- Tell-A-Friend Bonus - $5.00
- Double Sign Up Bonus - $5.00
- Double Sign Up Bonus - $5.00
- Cash Back on Purchases - $7.64
- Total - $37.64
Four people have signed up and made purchases, 2 of them during the double-bonus offer period. There are another 7 sign-ups listed under “My Account”, but either they haven’t made a purchase or their cash back hasn’t been posted to their account yet. It usually takes just a few days, but sometimes it can take as long as a month for the merchant to credit the money back.
The remainder of my earnings came from a handful of purchases including one from Buy.com, a couple from the iTunes store and one from 00inkjets.com. I also have an outstanding book purchase from Barnes & Noble that I haven’t received cash back for.
If you shop online, you’re bound to earn cash back with eBates. If you can persuade a few friends or family members to sign up under you, you’ll earn even more - $5.00 for each referral and the friend or family member received $5.00 just for signing up too.

I’m getting a great “big fat check” this time from them. It’s not, you know, going to make me rich or anything, but it’s a nice bonus for really no work whatsoever.. and I love getting cash back for shopping. I’m getting a few bucks back from Old Navy for sure! I always buy tons of stuff for the munchkin there.
