Love my MINI Sport Button

MINI Sport ButtonThe new R56 MINI comes with a Sport button designed to stiffen the steering and make the throttle more responsive. I remember trying it out on my initial MINI Cooper S test drive and not noticing too much of a difference. However, I’ve now had the car for 6 weeks and must admit I’m addicted to the Sport button!

With the button off (this is the default mode when you first start the car), it maintains a smooth balance of steering characteristics throughout the car’s entire speed range, but press the button and the power steering instantly becomes even more sporting and go-kart-like! In the process it also modifies the electronic gas pedal control map for a more spontaneous response also from the accelerator.

The few times I’ve neglected to press the button after starting the engine, I’ve almost stalled the car expecting it to be more responsive that it actually is. I really wish the button would turn on automatically at start-up, but I guess I’ll have to wait until someone invents a after-market mod….any takers?

Steve am I right in thinking the Mini is now a German car? It’s not that I mind, I have a Skoda.

      Hi Denis,

Well, MINI the brand is owned by BMW, but the car is actually assembled in Oxford. Also, the all new BMW-designed engines will be assembled at Hams Hall in the Midlands and the body panels and sub-assemblies come from Swindon.
They call this the ‘UK MINI production triangle’ and apparently it’s one of the true automotive UK success stories of recent years….

      Thanks for the comment!
