2007 Marine Corps Marathon

2007 Marine Corps MarathonWell, after deliberating for a couple of weeks, I finally took the plunge and sent off my entry form for this year’s Marine Corps Marathon.
The 2007 “People’s Marathon” takes place on October 28th and starts in Arlington, Virginia before working it’s way through Washington DC. It really is a great race, with the course passing the Kennedy Center before entering the National Mall and numerous monuments, memorials and landmarks, such as, the Lincoln, FDR, Korean War and Vietnam Veteran’s memorials, Washington Monument, and the U.S. Capitol.
Last year’s race was quite successful, but I still vividly remember the final 6 painful miles. Hopefully I can run a more sensible race this year and avoid that same kind of pain.

So, according to the race countdown, I have 26 weeks until race day - plenty of time to work out a training plan and start building up some endurance. My initial goal is to fix my painful right foot. After Saturday’s Chesapeake Bay 10k and yesterday’s easy short run, the pressure on my 2nd metatarsal has returned. Hopefully ice and some cross training will help the situation and I’ll be able to resume “normal” training pretty soon.

I sent my registration in a couple of weeks ago…I’ve always wanted to run the MCM.

      See you there.

I entered in 2005 but couldn’t run due to an ITBS injury (Iliotibial band syndrome), so it was great to return the following year and run a PR (even if I did hit the wall at the 20 mile mark!)

It’s a great race in every way - you’ll love it!
