Brooks ST3 - Shoes Of Choice For 2007 Marine Corps Marathon
One of the easiest decisions leading up to the 2007 Marine Corps Marathon was the old question “What shoe should I wear?” Despite wearing heavily cushioned shoes for all my weekend long runs, I prefer to race in something more minimalistic - yes, even in a marathon. My shoe of choice for races over 10k in distance is the Brooks ST3. It’s one of those rare shoes that feel perfect right out of the box and just lacing them up makes you feel fast

I’ve successfully worn the earlier Brooks ST2 model in 3 previous marathons, and each time had a good race. There’s just enough cushioning and a tiny amount of support that doesn’t impact my otherwise neutral running style. According to the Brooks web site, the ST3 is “ideal for tempo training and race distances from 5K to marathon” and I would have to agree 100% with their statement.
Road Runner Sports are currently selling the ST3 for $84.99 ($76.49 if you’re a VIP member), which has an average customer rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Doesn’t get much better than that! Price correct as of 10/24/07.
