Easy run with 2 miles @ marathon goal pace
Tonight’s run was just an easy 4 or 5 miles, but I wanted to include a couple of miles at marathon goal pace (6:30) in my race shoes - the Brooks Racer ST 2. I ran the first mile with my daughter Shannon, who was just coming off a great 3rd place in the Beach District Cross Country Meet, and now looking forward to Regionals next week. I quickly stepped up the pace and was surprised to see a 6:08 split on my Garmin. It didn’t feel that fast, so I stepped it up a little for the next mile, which I completed in 5:56. This one felt good too and it was nice to jog back to the house feeling quite good about things.
Not sure what I actually achieved though. A couple of slow miles, with a couple of too fast miles is hardly a good indicator of anything. At least I’m not hurting anywhere I guess, and with just 2 days of easy running to go now before Marine Corps, things are just about where they should be.
