FIRST Marathon Training Plan: Week 2
Week 2 of my training plan has been a bit up and down to be honest. Full details of each workout are over at Run Bulldog Run, but to summarize, I’m (a) still trying to adapt to the intense heat we’re experiencing at the moment and (b) trying to find my cycling legs to maximize my cross training sessions.
Today is a much needed rest day, so it will be nice to relax for the evening and catch up on a few other projects I’ve got going on. Tomorrow is the Derby Day 5k - Virginia’s first horse track 5k race and the fastest 5k in Virginia. The race starts in front of Colonial Downs and finishes on the track with hundreds of spectators and a televised last half mile on the track jumbotron and closed circuit television. Last year was a lot of fun, even though the last mile or so on the sand track was really tough. After the race, it will be great to enjoy the “Party On The Green” which features great food, live music, cold beverages, giveaways & much more and of course there’s always the chance to have a bet on the most prestigious annual horse race in the Commonwealth - the Virginia Derby.
Last year I ran 18:59 for the 5k, and to be honest I’m not sure I can get close to that or not. Much depends on the temperature and how I’ve recovered from this week’s workouts. We’ll see.
The plan for Sunday is a 15 mile long run on the main trail at First Landing State Park. After several disappointing runs over the past couple of weeks, I’ll need this one to be a success. Keep an eye on this blog or the Run Bulldog Run blog to see how I fared…..
Have a great weekend whatever you’re doing….
