FIRST Marathon Training Program: Week 14
Week 14 - October 8th, 2007
Only 3 weeks to go to race day, but I still have a lot of hard work to do before I can enjoy “the taper”.
Here’s what I’ll be doing this week:
Key Run Workout #1:
10-20 minute warm up
8 x 800m (1:30 min. Recovery Interval)
10 minute cool down
Key Run Workout #2:
5 miles @ LT pace (Long Tempo)
Key Run Workout #3:
Distance: 13 miles
Pace: PMP (Planned Marathon Pace)
I’m going to make the following changes this week:
1. Run Key Run Workout #1 on Wednesday instead of Tuesday. This will give me an extra day to recover from Sunday’s 20 mile run, which hopefully will allow me to perform to my full potential. I’m also thinking of attempting 10 x 800m instead of the prescribed 8 x 800m, to turn it into a true Yasso workout.
2. Run Key Run Workout #2 on Friday instead of Thursday.
3. Key Run Workout #3 calls for 13 miles @ Planned Marathon Pace. There’s a local half marathon on Sunday 14th, which I’m going to use as a marathon training run. It will be so much easier to hit my target pace with hundreds of runners around me, and I may even try to finish faster than Planned Marathon Pace in the final few miles. Should be a good tune-up for the Marine Corps Marathon.
Should be a fun, but challenging week!
