FIRST Marathon Training Program: Week 6

Week 6 - August 13th, 2007

Hard to believe this is the sixth week of the Run Less, Run Faster training plan. Although it’s been tough, I finally feel like I’m making headway and am looking forward to the next couple of weeks as the workouts continue to increase in difficulty.

Here’s what I’ll be doing this week:

Key Run Workout #1:
10-20 minute warm up
2 x 1200m (2 min. Recovery Interval)
4 x 800m (2 min. Recovery Interval)
10 minute cool down

Key Run Workout #2:
5 mile run @ MT pace (Medium Tempo)

Key Run Workout #3:
Distance:- 20 miles
Pace: PMP (Planned Marathon Pace) + (45-60 sec/mile)

I’m also toying with the idea of adjusting my 6:41 Planned Marathon Pace (PMP), which is currently based off an 18:00 5k time. I would love to run 2:50 at the Marine Corps Marathon, but this equates to a 6:29 per mile pace. I’m slightly concerned that training at my current 6:41 PMP will jeopardize my chances of running a PR in October. Decisions, decisions…

For reference, all 16 weeks of the FIRST to the Finish Marathon Training Program can be found here.
