Garmin Foot Pod to ship soon?

With the darker evenings now upon us, I typically turn to my treadmill a couple of evenings each week to ensure I still get some quality workouts in. Therefore I was pleased to read a couple of months ago that Garmin were releasing a Foot Pod which tracks distance, pace and calories burned when no GPS signal is available. The wireless Foot Pod attaches to your running shoe (threads through the laces for a secure fit) and transmits your distance and pace to the Forerunner using Dynastream technology. You can use the Foot Pod on an indoor track, treadmill or anywhere you can’t get GPS satellite signals.
Unlike step counters, the Foot Pod can accurately report your distance traveled whether you’re walking, jogging or sprinting. For even more accurate data, you can calibrate the Foot Pod to adjust for your personal stride mechanics.
The Foot Pod is built on Dynastream technology, which solves the challenge of accurately measuring a user’s speed and distance in real time. The system was designed to measure each stride via a patented accelerometer, which measures all parameters of each foot stride, computes that data, then wirelessly transmits speed and distance information to the Garmin Forerunner 305 wrist unit via a 2.4 GHz signal. To date, Dynastream technology is the first and only commercially viable, accurate stride analysis technology that can be used outside the laboratory environment.
Foot Pod is only compatible with the Forerunner 305, which is good news for me, but bad news for thousands of other Garmin product owners. Not sure when the Pod will be available to the consumer. At the Marine Corps Marathon expo, the Garmin representative informed me it would be January 07 before it was available. Some web sites are saying “ships in 1 to 2 months”, but the Lake Powell Marine Electronics web site states: “Availability: Usually ships the next business day.” I’ve emailed them to confirm if it is indeed available. I’ll post an update when I hear back.
