Hammer Gel - complex carbohydrates, natural ingredients and plenty of hammer!
Up until just over a month ago there was a very slim chance I would try the on-course energy gel Carb-BOOM at this year’s Shamrock Marathon. Initial tests on a couple of long runs were far from impressive, so it was a really easy decision to go back to the lesser-known and harder to find Hammer Gel, available online at www.e-caps.com

I’ve used this product successfully for a number of years, including my one and only Ironman experience in 2004. I have to say, nothing can beat it! Hammer Gel has no added refined, simple sugars and artificial colors or sweeteners. It’s available in either single-serving pouches or the extremely cost-effective jugs for even, reliable energy, not the typical spike and crash of sugar-loaded products. Hammer Gel only contains the good stuff: complex carbs, natural ingredients, and real fruit. It’s consistency is more syrupy than other gels, making it very easy to digest. Hammer Gel is versatile as well – you can take it straight, add it to your water bottle, or combine it with Sustained Energy, HEED, and Perpetuem to create a variety of tasty energy combinations for any length activity, anywhere, anytime.
Usage Suggestions & Notes:
- Hammer Gel may be used as the sole source of calories during workouts and races up to two hours. When training sessions or races go longer than that select either Hammer Nutrition’s PERPETUEM or SUSTAINED ENERGY as your primary fuel source.
- Hammer Gel is perfectly compatible with all Hammer Nutrition fuels so during ultra distance events, while Hammer Gel cannot be your sole source of calories every single hour, it may be occasionally to give you a little variety in what you’re consuming.
- The Hammer flask holds 5-6 servings
- Espresso Hammer Gel (one of my favorites) contains 50 mg caffeine per serving
- You can use Hammer Gel to flavor Sustained Energy, Hammer Whey smoothies
- Hammer Gel flavors can be mixed for a variety of tastes. Try this combo - raspberry and espresso to make a raspberry mocha! You’re only limited by your own imagination.
