Heart Rate Monitor for the Garmin Forerunner 305
Today must be the day for parcel deliveries - the UPS man just showed up with a replacement heart rate monitor for my Garmin Forerunner 305
. As posted last week, I’ve been having problems with my heart rate monitor
for some time. After submitting an online Technical Support form, Garmin were quick to reply with the offer of a free replacement, which was shipped for free the very same day. All this even with my GPS unit slightly out of warranty.
As stated previously, I have nothing but good things to say about the customer service received from Garmin, and it’s refreshing to see a company stand behind their products in this way. The timing of the UPS delivery was perfect too - I’m just about to go for an afternoon run!
Just in case anyone needs to know, here’s how to configure the Forerunner 305 to work with the heart rate monitor:
- Turn on the GPS device
- Bring within 3 meters of the heart rate monitor
- Press mode to access the main menu
- Choose Settings, then General
- Scroll down to the Accessories page and press “Enter“
- Choose Heart Rate Monitor
- In the Heart Monitor field select “Yes”
- To find the Heart Rate Monitor and pair with the GPS unit, select “Restart Scan“
At the bottom of the display you should now see a flashing heart symbol, and your GPS should show your current heart rate. Mine is currently about 45 beats per minute, which is 5 or 6 beats higher than it is first thing in the morning when I wake up.
Great to have the heart rate monitor back, and I look forward to using it to track my fitness in the upcoming months.
