As the title of this post suggests, the Marine Corps Marathon grim reaper movie download in Washington DC is only 16 weeks away. In other words, I’d better stop talking about it, and start training for it. The past couple of months have been all about logging some base miles, completely shaking off recent shin and foot problems and recharging my batteries in readiness for an intensive marathon training regime.
The “First to the Finish” Training Program by the Furman Institute of Running is my training plan of choice and will hopefully guide me towards a decent race in late October. I’ve downloaded the plan, bought the book and read pretty much everything I can find on the program, so all in all I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.
Technically I should have completed Key Workout #1 last night, but I was so tired after 19 hours of travel on Sunday that I think it would have been a complete waste of time to attempt a quality workout. Despite the intense heat in Virginia Beach at the moment, I’m hoping tonight will be a much needed confidence booster.
I managed to run every other day in Wales and England this past 2 weeks, so I still have a good level of fitness and I don’t feel totally out of shape. The main difference will be the temperature change and the quality of running expected of me. My thighs are also still recovering from quite a brutal 14 mile run visitor the free last Friday which included a fairly severe elevation change.
I must say I’ll be happy when this first workout is out of the way and the plan is in progress. Look out for an update later this evening….
