Metatarsal Stress Fracture and Running

Metatarsal Stress FractureMetatarsal Stress Fracture and Running
The article I’ve linked to above sounds exactly like what I’m dealing with at the moment. I had an x-ray a couple of weeks ago, but no fracture showed up. As the article states, this is very common - the fracture may not become apparent on x-rays until at least a few weeks after the injury.

I found the “there is often no recollection of injury” statement quite interesting. My foot became painful a couple of days after the Dismal Swamp Stomp Half Marathon, but I don’t remember a defining moment of injury.

All the symptoms of the fracture are spot on, and the way it affects my running is very accurate too. I guess I need to be patient and wait for it to heal. Correct treatment is important. Luckily I have a desk job, so I’m able to keep weight off my foot. I can also ice fairly regularly and I’m wearing insoles from the local running store, Running Etc.

My training is now focused on biking and core strength work until I can get back to running easily. Hopefully my fitness won’t suffer too much….
