Neptune Festival 8k - new PR 28:59
Saturday’s Neptune Festival 8k brought perfect weather and a new 8 second PR. The 8k (4.97 miles) is not a distance I race very often on the road, so it’s always nice to have a crack at running a fast time. My previous best of 29:07 (5:52 pace) was set at the same race in 2004. It’s a fast course, pancake flat, with just one tricky 180 degree turn to negotiate just past the 4 mile mark. With splits of 5:55 5:46 5:55 5:49 and 5:34 I managed to break my record and duck under 29 minutes for the first time, averaging 5:50 miles. Finish position was 5th overall.
