New Venue For Virginia Duathlon
Kale Running have just announced a new venue for the 2008 Virginia Duathlon - a popular multi-sport race traditionally hosted in Virginia Beach, Virginia, which next year is moving to Chippokes Plantation State Park. Chippokes Plantation is a scenic locale located between Petersburg and Smithfield on the southern banks of the James River; just a short ferry ride from historic Williamsburg.
The plantation has been in continual operation since 1617. On the grounds are antebellum mansion, formal gardens, and a collection of antique farm and forestry equipment and a sawmill exhibit at the Farm and Forestry Museum. A campground and three unique overnight cottages allow visitors to spend the night on the historic grounds.
The two 5k’s run along the plantation roads inside the park and the bike course covers 20 miles of scenic and quiet country roads in Surry, Virginia. Sounds like a great new venue and I’ve already taken the plunge and signed up!
