New world record set at Frederick Marathon

A new Guinness World Record was set today at the Frederick Marathon. Michael Wardian of Arlington, Va., is now the fastest person to run a marathon while pushing a baby in a stroller!

Wardian, 33, pushed his 10-month-old son Pierce Miler in a stroller and crossed the finish line in an incredible 2 hours, 42 minutes and 21 seconds. He finished 3rd overall and also qualified for the 2008 Olympic marathon trials in New York City in November.

His initial reaction after the race - “It was bonkers!”

Guinness Rules: PRAM PUSHING (HALF OR FULL MARATHON) GUIDELINES

1 - The half or full marathon must be an officially organized event that the participant must enter through the official channels.

2 - The pram should be one that is commercially available and contain a living individual.

3 - The individual in the pram must be safely strapped in.

4 - Confirmation that the pram was pushed solely by the participant for the complete distance is required.

5 - A copy of the official results should be submitted to confirm the time taken.

6 - Official confirmation from the course surveyor is required to confirm the distance of the course.

7 - The event is continuous and so if the competitor takes rest breaks the clock does not stop.
