Running Etc. - my latest web site design project

Running Etc.Well, it’s been an ongoing project for several months, but earlier this week my latest design project went live. The all-new Running Etc. Web Site went online Sunday, April 15th and has been getting a steady flow of traffic ever since.
Running Etc. takes great pride in carrying the largest selection of running gear in the Mid-Atlantic region, and has been in business for over 20 years. Running Etc. in Norfolk was founded in June of 1986 by Michael Robinson. It all started in a small 2 story, 1300 square foot space on Colley Avenue, in Historic Ghent.

The store has had a web presence since the late 1990’s, but towards the tail end of 2006 and keen to move with the times, Mike began to think about a major site upgrade. He approached me in early December and we’ve worked together ever since, culminating in the web site launch earlier this week. Despite burning the candle at both ends, tirelessly working on fresh content and constantly striving for perfection, Mike admitted it was “fun for me to watch this [project] grow from an idea, to going live today”.

In addition to utilizing content from the original site, Mike took the opportunity to add many new features. Now site visitor’s are able to “Meet the Staff“, view current Weekly Specials, browse a comprehensive list of Local Races, view interactive maps of both store locations, keep up to date with Latest News and much, much more. Visitor’s can also sign up for the Running Etc. Newsletter, with the aim of “keeping you informed of new product information, running news and upcoming events”.

The new Running Etc. web site is based on one of Andreas Viklunds’ very popular XHTML/CSS templates. I love the clean look of his designs and the fact the templates are easy to customize and manipulate. The main update I made was to add dynamic navigation to the left side of the site. I found a useful script (the AnyLink Vertical Menu) on DynamicDrive.com which I believe adds a great deal of interactivity to the navigation. I’m also using a series of “include” files to make future site updates and expansion as painless as possible.

I’d be interested to read any feedback on the new site. Feel free to post a comment or email me directly.
