Running Review: February 6th-12th

  • Monday: Easy 2 miles on the treadmill (sore shins).
  • Tuesday: Easy 2 miles on the treadmill (sore shins).
  • Wednesday: Easy 2 miles on the treadmill (sore shins).
  • Thursday: Progressive 4 miles on the treadmill (shins not as tender).
  • Friday: Treadmill workout Preset 4 Level 8 (speed interval workout). Legs almost back to normal!
  • Saturday: 2 mile warmup
    Mud In Your Eye Race #2 (22:38 - 16th overall, 3rd age group)
    1.5 mile cooldown
  • Sunday: Long run of 20.3 miles. Cold (36°), windy and snow flurries. Tough mental and physical run, but averaged 7:39/mile.
  • Only 41.0 miles for the week, but feeling much better than this time last week.

Summary: Happy with Saturday’s Mud In Your Eye race. Kept up a good pace throughout and was able to finish strong and move up to 3rd in the series age group standings. Early in the week it was just a question of taking it easy, keeping the running streak going (75 days and counting!) and recovering from the sore shin syndrome. Frequent icing seemed to do the trick. Sunday’s long run was tough. The weather wasn’t great for a 20 miler, but it was a nice mental boost to get through it in fairly good shape and in pretty good time. Need to increase my mileage for this week, but I hope to go into Saturday’s 30k as fresh as possible. I’d love to beat my best time of 2:01:00 set in 2003, but everything would have to be just right on the day. Time will tell I guess….
