The Perfect Distance - Ovett & Coe: The Record-Breaking History
Just finished reading Paula: My Story So Far with a few extra chapters added since her exploits at the Athens Olympics 2 years ago. Amazing how she bounced back from the bitter disappointment she suffered in the marathon on 22nd August 2004 to win the New York Marathon, The London Marathon and then the marathon at the World Championships in Helsinki.
Paula has a great web site with a news/press area, diary, messageboard, guestbook and a nice gallery with downloadable wallpaper. There’s even a audio/video section featuring interviews and race action. Worth bookmarking in my opinion!
Now I’m moving on to a book about 2 of the all-time great British middle-distance runners - Steve Ovett and Sebastian Coe. I remember watching their epic Olympic battles as a young boy and also the many, many UK, European and World records that they achieved. It was almost expected they’d break a record every time they stepped on the track. I’m looking forward to finding out much more about their background, training and race memories. I’ll write a brief report when I’ve finished reading.
