Washington Running Report - 2006 Runner Rankings
Yesterday I was looking for some old race results and found myself on the Washington Running Report web site. Curious to see where the Runner Rankings link would take me, I clicked on the link to find a fairly comprehensive list of Regional Rankings going back as far as 2000.
Somehow I managed to get myself on the Summer 2006 and Fall 2006 lists.

According to the WRR web site, “The goal of the runner rankings is to rank the best runners of Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia, in five-year age groups, for the purpose of stimulating competition in the Washington region. Runners are ranked only according to performances in rated races.”
So, how did I get on the Rankings list? Qualifying standards for my 40-44 age group is a 38:20 10k. General Information is available for review on the WRR web site and there’s also a conversion table to convert other race distance times to an equivalent 10k time. For example, here’s how I worked out a 10k equivalent time for my recent 1:21:30 Dismal Swamp Stomp Half Marathon performance:
- First convert finish time to seconds: (81 x 60 + 30) = 4890 seconds
- Then divide by the conversion factor from the conversion table: 4890 / 2.204 = 2205 seconds
- 2205 seconds = 36:45 10K equivalent, which should help me get on the Winter 07 rankings when they’re published sometime in May/June.
